- Surface Preparation Laboratory select the crystal rod by using the most professional methods Laue X – ray CCD camera.
- Cut to specific orientation and shape by spark erosion or diamond wire cutting this is material dependent
- Chemically etch the metal single crystals so that they are pure.
- Mechanically polish the crystals to get a perfect Laue image, before alignment.
- Orient single crystal surfaces to the agreed customer specifications.
- Alignment ~ 0.1 degree during polishing. This is checked and double checked using théta – 2 théta X – ray diffraction
- Mechanically lapping and mechanically polish of surfaces with a finish and flatness to customer's specifications (final polishing step ≤ 0.05 µm).
- Quality assessment using Rocking curve on a crystal diffractometer combined with interference light microscopy
